Quint and EU Ambassadors: Unilateral Withdrawal from Institutions is Unacceptable

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Our goal is a stable, functional, and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina, where everyone will be satisfied and enjoy full protection of the law, is the message from the ambassadors of the Quint countries (USA, Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany) and the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler.

Unilateral withdrawal from institutions or blocking decision-making processes within them is unacceptable and counterproductive, regardless of its origin, and can only weaken the very improvements and progress that citizens want to see. They are the ones who feel the real consequences of the relations that BiH has with other countries and the international community. This also sends a negative message to investors, as well as to the citizens of BiH who decide to leave the country.

Decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH, as well as decisions of the Constitutional Court in any country, are final and binding, and must be implemented. Too often, this has not been the case.

Resolving the issue of the composition of the Constitutional Court is possible within the prescribed procedures and together with broader reforms proposed by the EU for the accession process, such as the recent Opinion and the Priebe report.

Discussing such possibilities between political parties and in Parliament, through compromise and dialogue, is the best way to strengthen the rule of law and bring the country to a stage where, thanks to the existence of an independent judiciary and a clear separation of powers, international supervision will no longer be needed.
