EU Ambassador Johann Sattler to hold first press conference in Bosnia and Herzegovina

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Johann Sattler, is presenting his credentials to the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, today. Ambassador Sattler will then begin his public engagement in the country and will hold his first press conference in Sarajevo.

Ambassador Johann Sattler has been the Head of the European Union Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina since September 1, 2019.

He graduated and obtained his Master's degree in Political Science and Slavic Languages from the University of Innsbruck in 1994, and completed postgraduate studies in Advanced International Studies at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. He obtained his doctorate in Political Science from the University of Vienna in 2008.

During his previous experience, and his previous mandate as Austrian Ambassador to Albania, Ambassador Sattler focused particularly on the Western Balkans.

He began working at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996, in the Human Rights Department. He joined the European Community Monitor Mission in 1997, within which he was engaged in Sarajevo and Tirana. Most recently, he served as Head of the Western Balkans Department at the Directorate for Eastern and South-Eastern Europe in the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He took up his ambassadorial duties in Albania in 2016.

He was born in 1969 in Austria. In addition to his native German, Ambassador Sattler speaks fluent English and Russian, and knows Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and Albanian.
