US Embassy Concerned About Dodik's Actions and Statements

As a sign of the United States' continued commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the strengthening of democratic principles and institutions in the country, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hoyt Yee and Ambassador Maureen Cormack spoke with Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik to express concern over his recent statements and actions, and to reiterate previously stated positions – that opposing the Constitutional Court's decision represents a violation of the rule of law, and that those who do so must be held accountable, it was announced from the US Embassy in Sarajevo, Patria reports.

- We take any attempt to undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement very seriously. We expect the competent institutions to resolve instances of rule of law violations in accordance with BiH laws and we support the legal process initiated by these institutions, while we continue to assess appropriate consequences in accordance with US laws.

We appealed to Mr. Dodik to take steps that will demonstrate his positive commitment to the Dayton Peace Agreement, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the country's continuous European integration process.
