Resolution on Srebrenica Genocide Adopted!

(Patria) - The United Nations General Assembly today voted on the Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide. 84 UN member states voted for the resolution at today's session in New York, while 19 were against. The outcome of the vote in the General Assembly

The Embassy stated that the US proudly cosponsored the Resolution proposed by Germany, Rwanda, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They emphasize that the repeated denial of the Srebrenica genocide makes the international commemoration of the genocide even more important and urgent.

"The Resolution emphasizes that genocide occurred in and around Srebrenica in July 1995, which is an indisputable fact established by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Court of Justice, and a large body of forensic evidence.

The Resolution does not target any member state and does not assign collective responsibility to any group of people.

The United States proudly cosponsored the UN General Assembly resolution, put forward by Rwanda, Germany, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, commemorating the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide and welcomes its adoption.

As the Resolution clearly states, we all have an obligation to acknowledge the facts, teach the truth, honor the victims, support ongoing efforts to find and identify victims, and prosecute perpetrators.

These steps are essential for reconciliation," the US Embassy in BiH stated.
