US Embassy in BiH marks 20 years of Dayton: Working together, BiH will achieve more

The 20th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement was marked at the National Museum in Sarajevo, organized by the US Embassy in BiH and the OSCE Mission to BiH.

The attendees were addressed by US Ambassador Maureen Cormack, US Congressman Michael Turner, US Secretary of State John Kerry, and BiH Presidency member Bakir Izetbegović.

Ambassador Cormack emphasized that tonight marks 20 years of peace. The event, titled "20 Years of Peace," began with a moment of silence in honor of two soldiers killed a few days ago in Sarajevo, victims of the recent terrorist attack in France, and all victims of terrorist attacks worldwide throughout history.

- The path ahead is neither easy nor simple. Every citizen has the opportunity to express their opinion and lead the changes they desire. We must enable young people to take a leading role in the country. Together, we achieve more; this is not just a phrase, but words that guide the future and prosperity. Working together, BiH will achieve more - said Ambassador Cormack.

Izetbegović pointed out that in today's testimony, which will be placed in a (so-called) time capsule and opened in 20 years, future generations will be reminded of the obvious truth and the need for mutual respect and appreciation, the need for patriotism towards the country of our birth, and the need to respect its God-given diversity.

The divine message of respecting the other and the different is the highest human goal that the civilized world should follow. With the wish that my message of peace and mutual appreciation be realized and that we constantly encourage each other on this path, I greet you and wish you all the best - stated Izetbegović.

US Secretary of State John Kerry addressed the attendees at the National Museum of BiH via video link, stating that BiH can continue to count on the friendly support of the USA.
