US Embassy: Entities do not have the right to secede

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The US Embassy today issued a clear message on Twitter stating that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH are guaranteed by the Dayton Peace Agreement. 

As stated, the rhetoric used by the parties slows down BiH's progress towards EU integration.

"Such rhetoric slows down BiH's progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration and BiH's membership in the EU, undermines stability, and scares investors, which destroys jobs and accelerates the exodus of citizens," it is stated on the official Twitter profile of the US Embassy.

"Neither Dayton nor the BiH Constitution offer entities the right to secede. The existence of each entity is entirely dependent on the existence of BiH," they stated.

The US position remains unchanged. We fully support BiH, its territorial integrity, and its fundamental structure as a single, sovereign state with two entities and three constituent peoples. Any change to the internal organization of BiH must be adopted in accordance with the procedures established in the Constitution, which requires broad support within BiH's political spectrum, including all constituent peoples," they added.
