US Embassy in Sarajevo: Erduan Kafedžić is the Hero of the Month

(Patria) - The US Embassy in Sarajevo and Ambassador Eric Nelson have chosen a new hero of the month. This month's hero is Erduan Kafedžić, Head of the Office for Combating Corruption of Sarajevo Canton Erduana Kafedžića.

"Dr. Kafedžić is the Head of the Office for Combating Corruption of Sarajevo Canton. Through Dr. Kafedžić's leadership, the Office has played a key role in the fight against corruption since 2018. Dr. Kafedžić quotes former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who said, 'If corruption is a disease, transparency is its cure.'"

Erduan Kafedžić is the Hero of the Month of the US Embassy in Sarajevo.

His office has launched numerous investigations into fake diplomas and widespread environmental and construction-related fraud. The Office for Combating Corruption has also produced a documentary film about these important investigations.

Unfortunately, the inaction of BiH judicial institutions to follow up means that there are too few results from this hard work.

According to Dr. Kafedžić, "We cannot ignore the political pressure that the Office for Combating Corruption is under. The cases the Office for Combating Corruption is working on are increasingly complex, difficult, and diverse, and some of them involve serious criminal offenses. Citizens must understand that corruption is the enemy of the state. Civic and political action must be directed against corruption and corrupt individuals and groups, because the fight against corruption has no alternative, and giving up and leaving means losing the country."

The US Embassy strongly supports the team in the Office for Combating Corruption and will continue to provide technical support and mentorship. Dr. Kafedžić and his office are an example of how independent institutions can act honestly and be a model for change, emphasized the US Embassy.
