U.S. Embassy: As long as the truth is denied, here in the Council or in the region, there is no genuine reconciliation

The U.S. Embassy strongly shares the views and feelings expressed in Ambassador Power's speech yesterday at the United Nations, and this sentiment is also present in the U.S. government and the international community, which are equally affected by Russia's decision to veto the UN Security Council Resolution commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, the U.S. Embassy in BiH announced.

- As Ambassador Power said, as long as the truth is denied, here in the Council or in the region, there can be no genuine reconciliation. As Ambassador Cormack said in her statement to the media this morning before the farewell ceremony for the remains, the non-adoption of the resolution in no way diminishes the determination of the United States to honor the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and their families - the statement reads.

It is further stated that the U.S. Congress did just that yesterday, unanimously adopting a resolution confirming that genocide was committed in Srebrenica, condemning those who deny it, and honoring the victims.

- Several states have adopted similar resolutions in recent weeks, showing that we, in the U.S., fully accept the rulings of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which state that what happened twenty years ago in Srebrenica was genocide and that, in our opinion, not enough was done to prevent it - it is stated.
