US Embassy Reiterated: BiH Constitutional Court Decisions Must Be Respected

The Embassy of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina appealed to the authorities in RS to make appropriate changes so that future celebrations of RS Day are in line with the request of the BiH Constitutional Court, which declared a part of the Law on Holidays of Republika Srpska unconstitutional, and ordered the National Assembly of that BiH entity to amend the disputed provisions, reports N1, as conveyed by the BiH news agency Patria.

- During 2015, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić pointed out the role of Serbia, which, as a signatory to the Dayton Peace Agreement, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We believe that Prime Minister Vučić understands the sensitive nature of this event following the decision of the BiH Constitutional Court - the US Embassy's Office of Public Affairs told N1.
As they stated, the BiH Constitutional Court gave the authorities of Republika Srpska a deadline of six months from the date of the decision's publication to align this holiday with the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- We appeal to the authorities in Republika Srpska to make appropriate changes so that future celebrations of the aforementioned holiday are in line with this request. Decisions of the Constitutional Court are final and binding, and everyone must respect and implement them. All participants in the holiday's observance should avoid inciting nationalist sentiments - announced the Embassy of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
