German Embassy Condemns Staša Košarac's Actions Towards Schmidt: This is Not Political Dialogue!

(Patria) - The German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina is deeply shocked by the letter sent by Staša Košarac, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to the High Representative Christian Schmidt.

"The comparisons, formulations, and actions contained in this letter are unacceptable and undermine the dignity of political dialogue. Equating Christian Schmidt with the National Socialist regime represents a serious trivialization of the crimes of National Socialism and is ultimately inappropriate.

Such comparisons are not only tasteless but also a conscious distortion of historical facts. Sending an SS helmet as an "artifact" is a further expression of disrespect and provocation, lacking any form of diplomatic ethics and unbecoming of a public official of a European country that should be on the path to the EU.

The timing of this action is particularly disturbing: on the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Nuremberg Trials, which laid the foundation for the legal and moral resolution of Nazi crimes. Making such inappropriate and offensive comparisons is unacceptable. The abuse of historical context for political polemics insults the memory of the victims and is contrary to the spirit of international cooperation and responsibility," the German Embassy stated.

The German Embassy reaffirms its support for High Representative Christian Schmidt and his work in service of a peaceful, stable, and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, they appeal to all responsible parties in the country to return to factual, constructive, and respectful political discourse.
