Amanpour finally receives 'Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo' award, Karić welcomed her at the City Hall

(Patria) - Christiane Amanpour, the renowned CNN war reporter, received the plaque of "Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo" from Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić today, an award that was granted to her in 2000 but had never been formally presented. After the war years, Amanpour visited Sarajevo for the first time to attend the opening of the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival, where the film 'Kiss the Future', in which she appears, was screened. Today, at the City Administration, Mayor Karić, who did not appear on the red carpet last night due to the tragedy in Gradačac, presented her with the recognition.

Amanpour, through her reporting from Sarajevo during the siege, was the voice of the attacked citizens, many of whom lost their lives.

"I am happy to enjoy the special Sarajevo Film Festival with Bono, director Nenad Čičin-Šain, musicians Enes Zlatar and Gino Jevđević, the cast of 'Kiss the Future', on the power of music in war," Amanpour posted on her Twitter profile, along with a photo from the red carpet taken during last night's opening of the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival.

Mayor Karić said she is very proud that Amanpour took the time to come to the Sarajevo City Hall.

"Sarajevo has friends all over the world, but we especially cherish and value those who stood by us when it was hardest. Amanpour is one of them. Today I had the honor of presenting her with the recognition of the City of Sarajevo. She is an honorary citizen of Sarajevo and received that recognition in 2000, but until now we have not had the opportunity to personally present it to her. As of today, we can officially say that Amanpour is fully our Sarajevan," Karić said for N1.
