Alkalaj: I prepared a platform for the meeting with Blinken that shows the situation in BiH

(Patria) - BiH Ambassador to the US Sven Alkalaj announced that he will meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and will use the opportunity to point out the key problems facing BiH on its path to the EU and NATO.

- I have prepared not a non-paper, but a platform that shows the situation in BiH. A one-page summary will serve as a reminder to Secretary Blinken.

During the conversation, I will try to highlight the problems that are slowing down BiH in its European and Euro-Atlantic integrations. Also, I will once again ask for support to speed up our path to NATO - Alkalaj told N1.

When asked about the US strategy towards BiH at a time when President Donald Trump's administration is focused on the conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and relations with Iran and China, Alkalaj was realistic in his assessment.

- We should not deceive ourselves - Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be high on the United States' list of priorities. In the worst case, in the event of unrest or armed conflict, NATO could react.

But in the current circumstances, BiH will not be at the top of US foreign policy. However, we must strive not to be at the very bottom of that list, but somewhere in the middle, so that the US pays attention to us again - Alkalaj emphasized.

He stated that previous attempts to agree on strategic cooperation with the US have encountered obstacles due to internal divisions in BiH.

- Americans say - you do not have unified goals, you have at least three different ones. How then can we strategically plan anything with you? That is the problem that hinders progress, while other countries have already managed to achieve concrete agreements and development plans - added Alkalaj.

The meeting between Alkalaj and Blinken is expected on March 19, and the main topic will be strengthening US support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European and Euro-Atlantic path, as well as the current situation in BiH.
