Alija buries only two of his father Omer's bones in Potočari today

Alija Bećirević, a 30-year-old from Bratunac, will bury his father Omer on July 11th, along with 135 identified victims killed in the Srebrenica genocide in 1995, writes the BH news agency Patria.

Alija says that experts from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) found Omer's bones five years ago in a mass grave near Srebrenica, and his family had hoped all these years to find other body parts, but that did not happen.

Now they have decided to bury what they have.

- It's hard... I constantly think about which Chetnik killed my father. And how he killed him. I wish my father had died from a bullet when he wasn't expecting it, rather than being tortured or being aware that he was being led to execution. I constantly think about it. And I often dream about what the meeting between my father's killer and me would look like. I wish my father's killer repented and felt bad about it. I don't think I could control myself - says Alija.

Today he lives in Srebrenik with his mother and two sisters. He also recalled that he last saw his father on July 10, 1995, when he was separated from his family.

They say he was killed two days later, but there is no reliable information about it. Suljo, Alija's cousin, who will help Alija lower the coffin with a few bones into the grave, joins the conversation. He is convinced that reconciliation between Bosniaks and Serbs will not happen until Serbs sincerely repent for their atrocities and until their policies abandon genocidal ideas.

- This genocide did not happen by accident, nor did the genocide happen only on July 11th or a few days before or after that date. They have been killing us for years. That is one of the key goals of Serbian policy - says Suljo.

Alija says he doesn't understand that policy, but he is sure that Bosniaks can only save themselves from a new genocide if they are united.
