ALARMING: 709 new cases of infection in Sarajevo in one day, no pressure on hospitals yet

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - According to data from the Institute for Public Health of the Sarajevo Canton, 709 new cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in the past day in the Sarajevo Canton, after laboratory testing of 2,209 samples. In the same period, 370 people recovered from the Covid-19 infection. One person died from the consequences of this disease.

Currently, 139 patients are undergoing hospital treatment, of whom 130 have an acute infection, while the others are post-covid or under observation/triage. The share of unvaccinated persons among the hospitalized is 71.22 percent.

Eighty-nine patients are being treated at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, and 50 at the General Hospital “Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš”. Fifteen people are on ventilators, seven are using non-invasive ventilation, and the same number of patients are on oxygen support for breathing.

The Sarajevo Canton today records 3,215 active cases of Covid-19 infection. Currently, 4,292 people are in self-isolation. Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 74,631 people infected with the coronavirus have been recorded in the Sarajevo Canton, while 69,737 have recovered.

"In the past seven days, the average number of infected is 437, while the weekly incidence, i.e., the number of patients per 100,000 inhabitants, is 725," according to data from the Institute for Public Health of the Sarajevo Canton.

In the Covid clinics of the Public Institution Health Center of the Sarajevo Canton, 659 patients were examined, of whom three were transported for hospital treatment.

A total of 2,319 PCR swabs were taken at drive-in points and in Covid clinics. Drive-in points in Vrbanja, Ilidža, Novi Grad and Semizovac operate every day from 07:30 to 20:00 hours.

The Covid call center recorded 1,188 calls, and 405 conversations with patients were conducted via telephone numbers in the Covid clinics.

During yesterday, a total of 1,876 doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered.

The Ministry of Health of the Sarajevo Canton appeals to citizens to get vaccinated, in order to preserve their own health and the health of those around them. They also thank citizens for their cooperation and invite them to continue to respect all prescribed hygienic-epidemiological measures.
