Statistics of the Other Financial Institutions (OFI) sector in BiH at the end of the first half of 2015 include aggregated data for 25 insurance companies with a reinsurance company, 33 investment funds, seven leasing companies, 19 microcredit organizations, 12 brokerage houses, and two stock exchanges, reports the BiH news agency Patria.
The only major status change occurred with a microcredit foundation from the Federation of BiH, for which bankruptcy proceedings were initiated in June 2015, resulting in its exclusion from the OFI sector data, which will affect the volume and structure of assets and liabilities of both microcredit organizations and the total OFI sector. The collection of this statistic is done on a semi-annual basis and is harmonized with the international methodology prescribed in the IMF's Manual on Monetary and Financial Statistics (2000). By applying this methodology, it is possible to systematically and harmonizedly monitor changes in all segments of a country's financial sector, as uniform valuation and classification methods are applied to all financial institutions.
With assets of 3.66 billion KM, the OFI sector is still much smaller than the banking sector, as it represents 15% of the banking sector at the end of the first half of 2015.
The total balance sheet sum of the OFI sector in BiH at the end of the first half of 2015 amounted to 3.66 billion KM, an increase of 9.2 million KM or 0.3% compared to the end of 2014, and on an annual basis, it is 7 million KM or 0.2% lower.
Insurance companies have the largest balance sheet sum within the OFI sector, amounting to 1.49 billion KM, representing a share of 40.9% in the OFI sector, followed by investment funds with 842.8 million KM in assets (23% share), microcredit organizations with 667.4 million KM (18.2% share), leasing companies with 633.1 million KM (17.3% share), and the remaining 21.1 million KM (0.6% share) relates to the assets of brokerage houses and stock exchanges in BiH.
In the first half of 2015, the OFI sector continues to record a slight increase in assets after six consecutive years of decline since the beginning of the crisis. Unfavorable economic trends caused by the economic crisis, natural disasters during the previous year, over-indebtedness of loan beneficiaries, as well as status changes of OFI sector institutions, have affected the reduction of this sector's assets by 34% compared to the record year of 2008, when the total assets of the OFI sector amounted to 5.54 billion KM.
