If Bosniaks remain silent, someone will erect a statue of Mladić in front of the Presidency

The War Veterans' Organisation of East Novo Sarajevo has placed a plaque on a wall along the road in the Vraca neighbourhood, at the entrance to Sarajevo, commemorating a military parade held 22 years ago at this location by war criminal and Hague indictee Ratko Mladić.

Šefik Patković, president of the Association of Recipients of the Highest War Decorations in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said in a statement to the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) that this plaque will bring no good. If the Bosnian authorities, as well as the international community, continue to tolerate Serbian radicalism in BiH, Patković believes, in a few years the citizens of Sarajevo will see plaques glorifying war crimes in the city centre.

From the Association of War Veterans' Organisations of East Novo Sarajevo, they recall that on 19 May 1992, the commander of the Main Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska, General Ratko Mladić, conducted a review of two battalions of the self-organised people of the Novo Sarajevo Municipality.
However, the fact that this army, during the siege of Sarajevo which lasted 1,425 days, killed 11,542 citizens, and more than 1,000 children, has been omitted.

- For several years now, I have been pointing out that we cannot afford to move the line of tolerance any further. We have been tolerant from the beginning of the 1990s until now. I believe that this tolerance will lead to someone wanting to place that plaque in Sarajevo as well, near the Presidency - Patković told Patria.

- Unfortunately, the international community should have resolved these issues, but for the last seven or eight years, they have been pursuing a very strange policy towards BiH. Due to some strategic interests, they tolerate radicalism in part of Serbian politics, at the expense primarily of BiH. This entire situation will not bring any good - Patković warned.
