Patria Agency wishes all Muslims Ramadan Mubarak!

Tonight, after sunset, according to the lunar, Hijri calendar for the year 1435, Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, begins, during which all healthy Muslims who are not traveling are obliged to fast, reports the BH News Agency Patria (NAP).

Fasting, according to Islamic regulations, means abstaining from food and drink, sexual relations, bad words and behavior, from dawn until sunset. Ramadan can last 29 or 30 days, and this year believers in BiH will fast for 30 days.

Fasting is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam. In addition to fasting, Muslims around the world set aside a portion of their wealth during this month to help the poor. This is called zakatul-fitr or sadakatul-fitr. Muslims also perform a voluntary congregational prayer during Ramadan – Tarawih prayer.

For Bosniaks, it is a special time for strengthening faith, joy, preserving and consolidating family ties, and many customs are associated with this holy month – from reciting mukabela to organizing joint iftars to which friends, neighbors, and relatives are invited.

Some dishes, like 'topa', are mostly prepared only during Ramadan in Sarajevo and other cities.

The first suhur, the time when believers begin their fast, is tomorrow at 2:31 AM, while the first iftar, the time when believers break their fast, is at 8:39 PM.
