Last night, after sunset, according to the lunar, Hijri calendar for the year 1436, Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, has ended, during which all healthy Muslims were obliged to fast, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

Fasting, according to Islamic rules, is one of the fundamental pillars of Islam and means abstaining from food and drink, sexual relations, bad words and behavior, all from dawn until sunset. Ramadan can last 29 or 30 days, and this year believers in Bosnia and Herzegovina fasted for 29 days.

Muslims mark the end of the month of Ramadan with Eid. Ramadan Eid, along with Kurban Eid, which is celebrated approximately two months after Ramadan Eid, is one of the two Muslim holidays that Muslims around the world celebrate in the most solemn way. It is the culmination of the Ramadan fast, which comes to the fasting person as a reward for their commitment and effort during the month of Ramadan.

Ramadan Eid is celebrated for three days, and for Bosniaks, as well as for other Muslims around the world, these are days of happiness, giving gifts, and visiting relatives and friends. These are days of family gatherings for shared lunches.

According to the Calendar of the Islamic Community in BiH, Bajram namaz this year is at 5:57 AM, and the central Bajram ceremony will be held at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, where the Bajram namaz will be led and the sermon delivered by the reisu-l-ulema Husein-ef. Kavazović.

Men wake up early, get ready, and go to the mosque for Bajram namaz, while women stay at home and wait for the male members of the family to return from the mosque. It is a tradition among Muslims to go to the mosque by one route and return by another, so that the streets look fuller on that day.

During Ramadan Eid, Bosniak homes are full of cakes and delicious dishes. It is a tradition among Bosniaks to prepare baklava for this holiday. Children kiss the hands of men, and men give them money.
