Ademović on BiH Election Law: Deepening ethnic discrimination unacceptable, I will not support such a proposal by HDZ BiH

(Patria) - First Deputy President of NIP and member of the leadership of the House of Peoples of the BiH PA Kemal Ademović commented on the process surrounding the announced amendments to the BiH Election Law.

President of HDZ BiH Dragan Čović forwarded the proposal for amendments to the BiH Election Law, and according to him, this was agreed upon with the parties of the 'Trojka' (Trio) at a previous meeting in Mostar, and then at a meeting in Bakinci. However, the president of NIP Elmedin Konaković stated today that there are no leaders' signatures on these proposals and that only what is signed can be considered agreed upon, everything else is interpretation.

Ademović is of the opinion that it is important to improve transparency and strengthen the integrity of the electoral process, prevent electoral theft and fraud, and enable the expression of the genuine will of the citizens in elections.

"It would be best if the parliamentary majority reached a political agreement on this and if the law was passed by the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH. For now, there is no such agreement. If it remains so, I believe that the High Representative could bring a solution," he said in an interview for the official website of Narod i Pravda.

He stated that the Presidency of Narod i Pravda held a session in Gornji Vakuf last weekend and adopted conclusions that deny insinuations and accusations that any final agreement has been reached with SNSD and HDZ that would in any way harm important processes for the country.

"Regarding the proposals put forward by HDZ, we have heard some of them in similar forms in previous years, and there are also some new proposals that are certainly unacceptable and cannot be a starting point if a serious agreement is to be reached. Raising the threshold that could jeopardize the participation in power of the returnee population in the RS, or closing electoral lists, or further deepening ethnic discrimination in the electoral process which is already burdened by the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, etc., as well as the departure of foreign judges from the Constitutional Court of BiH until a complete normalization of relations is achieved and until the negotiation process for EU accession is concluded, I believe that none of the 'Trojka' or other pro-Bosnian parties can accept this and it cannot find support from any party or representative in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH. Personally, I will never support it. Talks should certainly continue, negotiations have no alternative, but some proposals should be set aside immediately," Ademović said.

We remind you that Čović stated that the BiH Presidency member from the Croat people would be elected in the Federation of BiH under the condition that they would have to have the highest number of votes in three out of five cantons with a Croat majority, if not in three, then in two or one. These are HNK, ZHK, Posavski Canton, SBK, and Canton 10.
