Ademović: If the decision is for Avdić to be acting mayor, I am ready to resign

(Patria) - The Speaker of the Sarajevo City Council (GV) Jasmin Ademović issued a statement after Our Party said yesterday that they will not support Samir Avdić for acting mayor of Sarajevo if Ademović does not resign from his position as Speaker of the GV.

(Patria) - The Sarajevo City Council will, at its next session scheduled for November 19, also declare itself on the Proposal for a Decision on the acting mayor of the City of Sarajevo, and the proposal of the Administrative Commission is that the current deputy mayor

"Regarding the statement of Our Party concerning the decision of the Sarajevo GV on the acting mayor until the election of a new mayor, I want to inform the public that on Tuesday, November 12, the Collegium met in preparation for the GV session scheduled for next Tuesday, November 19.

The Collegium of the City Council was informed about the publication of the CEC BiH Decision on confirming the results of the 2024 Local Elections, as well as the information that Mayor Benjamina Karić will accept the mandate of the Mayor of Novo Sarajevo Municipality, and her mandate as Mayor of Sarajevo will cease.

In accordance with the Statute of the City of Sarajevo, it was considered which of the deputy mayors will perform the duties of the mayor until the election of a new mayor in the following procedure.

At the Collegium session, the only proposal made and accepted was that the duties of the mayor be entrusted to the deputy mayor Samir Avdić, which the City Council will decide on at the next session.

I emphasize that the Our Party councilors' club in the GV did not at all propose that these duties be entrusted to the deputy mayor Anja Margetić Stakić, and therefore Deputy Avdić remained as the only proposal," Ademović stated on Facebook.

In order to resolve this issue, Ademović says he proposed a meeting on Monday with the presidents of the Trojka parties, as well as the presidents of the Trojka clubs from the GV, to adopt a common stance.

"Whatever decision is agreed upon at the meeting, I will respect it. If the decision is that Mr. Avdić be proposed as acting mayor, given that he also comes from the Bosniak people, I am ready to resign.

The functionality and stability of the City institution, the legality and constitutionality of the procedure, and the interest of the citizens must come first, and in my case, this has never been and will not be called into question.

Unfortunately, I must state that all personnel and other solutions in the Municipality Centar and the City are clearly subordinated to the effort and narrative that problems cannot be solved until Ademović is removed, with a continuous portrayal of me as the cause of disagreements, ignoring all the real problems of inaction, lack of transparency, and the undermining of the principles and agreements of the Trojka that come from other sides.

I am proud of the fact that in the past four years, the City Council which I presided over has functioned without problems, efficiently, and with visible results, and that we have managed to show how a political body can work transparently and harmoniously in the interest of the citizens.

I am extremely grateful to all my colleagues in the City Council for the excellent cooperation in the past period, as well as to Mayor Benjamina Karić," Ademović conveyed.
