Aćimović: Institutions must react urgently and sanction the act of vandalism in Čekrekčije

Draško Aćimović, Vice-President of SDP BiH, reacted to the burning of the interior of the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Visoko settlement of Čekrekčije.

- The act of vandalism in Čekrekčije, which has elements of a hate crime, must be investigated by the competent authorities and the perpetrators punished, in order to send a clear message that such attacks are not welcome and that they disrupt the much-needed coexistence.

We are witnessing that BiH is a society in which every violation of multi-ethnicity is particularly felt by minorities in the dominant majority. Therefore, the attack in Visoko deserves every condemnation, and on this occasion, I want to send a message of support to the Orthodox believers in Visoko that, as I have emphasized before, SDP will provide institutional assistance to everyone in every corner of BiH, including them.

In an election year, tensions are always heightened, and nationalists know how to exploit such situations. I hope this is the work of irresponsible individuals and that it will not happen again. Therefore, timely reaction from state institutions, as well as condemnation from the public and other religious institutions, and municipal authorities is necessary - said Aćimović.
