Abid Kauković was forgotten by the state, hungry and sick: Buzim's warrior found dead in his home

Residents of the settlement Donji Mulalići near Buzim were in shock when the news spread through the settlement - the lifeless body of 38-year-old Abid Kauković-Kauk was found in his home. He was found by a neighbor, who suspected something was wrong because he hadn't seen Abid for several days, writes the Patria News Agency.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, other than that doctors confirmed Abid had died several days before his body was found. The police in Buzim have also been notified.

Abid was born on September 22, 1975, in Buzim. At less than 17 years old, he joined the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. His wartime path was marked by the IDV Gazija unit, of which he was a member.

He will be remembered for the courage he showed in combat operations throughout the war. For his contribution to the defense of the country, he was awarded and commended several times by the Command of the 505th Viteška Brigade and the Command of the 5th Corps.

He lived alone in a house in the settlement of Donji Mulalići and was seriously ill. One-time assistance from veterans' associations was Abid's only source of income, from which he survived.

Irregular nutrition, illness, and the state's neglect of demobilized soldiers only hastened the death of the Buzim warrior, who certainly deserved much more.
