ABA 2 League returns to Ilidža: Mayor Muzur expresses desire to host the final tournament

(Patria) - The third tournament of the ABA 2 League will be held in Ilidža from December 13th to 19th, with OKK Spars organizing the matches of the fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds.

The mini-tournament will take place at the Arena Hills hall, and the organizer emphasized their pride in returning to Ilidža, where one of the "bubbles" was held last season, earning praise from the regional competition's management.

The Municipality of Ilidža assisted Spars in organizing the competition hosted by our municipality last season, and the municipal mayor stated that Ilidža aims to become the leading municipality in the Sarajevo Canton when it comes to sports.

- Ilidža currently has two premier league teams, the Ilidža handball players and Igman volleyball players, and it is certain that from next season, Ilidža volleyball players will also compete in the top tier. Our commitment is to invest in sports and sports development, and we are pleased that Ilidža will once again host an ABA 2 League tournament - said the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Nermin Muzur.

Although Spars has often played in other municipalities, the municipal mayor stated that the cooperation between the Municipality and the club is constantly progressing.

- Last season, we helped Spars organizationally, and for the future, we have expressed our readiness to assist on a much larger scale. We regret that the club did not manage to qualify for the top tier last season, as it is in our interest to have such a prestigious competition as the ABA League played in the Municipality of Ilidža. It would mean a lot for the development of sports in our municipality if basketball fans in Ilidža could watch matches of Crvena zvezda, Partizan, Budućnost, Cibona, and other renowned basketball clubs from the region - said Mayor Muzur.

The head of the Municipality of Ilidža used the press conference regarding the ABA 2 League tournament to highlight Ilidža's candidacy for hosting the final tournament.

- For good cooperation, two parties are always necessary, and the one between the Municipality of Ilidža and Spars is quite successful. I don't know if the ABA League rules allow it, but I will openly say that we in Ilidža want to organize the final tournament of the ABA 2 League this season - the municipal mayor concluded.

ABA League Sports Director Milija Vojinović emphasized that he is pleased to hear that the Municipality of Ilidža is ready to host and organize the final tournament, but he pointed out that it does not depend solely on him. At the same time, Vojinović praised the conditions in Ilidža, emphasizing that the basketball players have everything they need here.

OKK Spars President, Nihad Selimović, thanked the Municipality of Ilidža and Nermin Muzur, as well as the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton and Samir Avdić, for their support to the club so far.

Minister Avdić stated that he is proud of everything that has been done for sports so far, saying that the Ministry of Culture and Sports not only cares about sports in the Sarajevo Canton but also significantly supports national teams in numerous sports.
