30th Anniversary of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Independence is Also Celebrated in Canada

(Patria) - The Bosnian-Herzegovinian community in Canada continuously strengthens the sense of belonging to their one and only homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, develops awareness of their country, and in the best possible way presents Bosnian-Herzegovinian values within Canadian society, the Canadian cultural mosaic.

The celebration of the 30th anniversary of Bosnia and Herzegovina's independence in Canada began in Bosnian language schools. From a history class dedicated to Independence Day, the students of Bosnian language schools sent a message:

"Our only homeland is Bosnia and Herzegovina. We, in distant Canada, carry our homeland in our hearts. We congratulate all our peers, wherever they may be, and all true friends of our only homeland on Independence Day, with due respect to all those who have woven their lives into the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina."

It is important to educate the younger generations in Canada about Bosnian-Herzegovinian national holidays, about the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Bosnian language, and the rich cultural, historical, traditional, and natural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because they will be the ones who will care for national holidays, for the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for its best historical, cultural, and traditional values in the future, and preserve, strengthen, and promote them worldwide. Investing in young citizens living in Canada is an investment in a better future for Canada, as well as for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The celebration continued with the organization of several online academies. We particularly highlight the series by the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, in which prominent citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who are members of parliament in the countries where they currently live are participating.

A large number of prominent Canadian political, academic, and cultural figures have sent congratulations on the occasion of the great national jubilee, the 30th anniversary of Bosnia and Herzegovina's independence. Among others, congratulations were sent by the Premier of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Dr. Andrew Furey, Member of the Canadian Parliament and a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brian Masse, Mayor of Toronto, John Tory, Mayor of Hamilton, Fred Eisenberger, member of the Hamilton City Council and a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maria Pearson, and many others.
Common to all congratulations is the paying of tribute to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina for its great jubilee, praise for the efforts of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian community in Canada for their recognized work for a better Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada, and encouragement for the Bosnian-Herzegovinian community to continue their excellent fight for both a better Bosnia and Herzegovina and a better Canada.

On the occasion of the great jubilee, the 30th anniversary of Bosnia and Herzegovina's independence, by decision of the Mayor of Toronto, John Tory, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian flag is flying in front of the Toronto City Hall for the first time.

This year, by decision of the Mayor of Hamilton, Fred Eisenberger, the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national flag is flying at the Hamilton City Hall in honor of Independence Day. Also, by the mayor's decision, the large, historic, electronic symbol of Hamilton in front of the City Hall building was illuminated in the colors of the national Bosnian-Herzegovinian flag on the occasion of Independence Day.
On the large screen at Hamilton City Hall, it reads: "Happy March 1st, BiH Independence Day," by decision of Hamilton City Council member, Maria Pearson.

Today, 30 years after gaining independence, we must continue to bravely fight for the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity, for peace, security, and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We must also fight for the greater reputation of our Bosnia and Herzegovina, we must better, more organized, and with more strategy and knowledge present the best Bosnian-Herzegovinian values to the world. Especially in places like Canada, where instead of state diplomacy, we have anti-Bosnian diplomacy. The Bosnian-Herzegovinian community in Canada has contributed, is contributing, and will continue to contribute to this fight. We in Canada will forever celebrate Independence Day, this historic date and national holiday.
