30 YEARS SINCE THE CRIME: 68 citizens killed, 144 injured at Markale market

(Patria) - On the occasion of February 5 - Day of Remembrance for all citizens of Sarajevo killed and wounded during the aggression in the period 1992-1995 and the 30th anniversary of the suffering of our fellow citizens at the Markale market, the Sarajevo Canton is organizing laying of flowers at the Memorial to the citizens killed at the Markale market and a Joint Commemorative Session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, the Sarajevo City Council, and the municipal councils of municipalities within the Sarajevo Canton.

At 12:00 PM, flowers will be laid at the memorial at the Markale market (30th anniversary of the massacre of citizens at the Markale market, when 68 of our fellow citizens were killed and 144 were wounded).

A Joint Commemorative Session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, the Sarajevo City Council, and the municipal councils of municipalities within the Sarajevo Canton will be held at the National Theatre Sarajevo starting at 12:30 PM.

The Sarajevo Canton Assembly declared February 5 as the Day of Remembrance for all citizens of Sarajevo killed and wounded by the aggressor during the siege of 1992-1995, which is marked by "commemorative programs with appropriate protocol activities".

The 30th anniversary of the Markale massacre will be attended by the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, who will lay a wreath at the memorial at the Markale market.

In the first massacre at Markale on February 5, 1994, 68 citizens were killed by a shell fired from aggressor positions, and 144 were seriously or lightly wounded.
