October 25 and 26: Judokas from 31 Countries to Arrive for Sarajevo European Judo Open 2025

(Patria) - Bosnia and Herzegovina will host the Sarajevo European Judo Open 2025 on October 25 and 26 as part of the European Judo Tour, which counts towards the world ranking list, and later for the Olympic ranking list.

The capital city of our country hosted the first European Judo Tour tournament three years ago.

The European Open 2025 will be held at the Hills Arena in Ilidža, and will gather more than 200 competitors from 31 countries.

"The European Open is a very important event in the calendar of the European Judo Union (EJU), and it is extremely important for the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the technical organizer. Competitions like this greatly promote our country, our athletes, and give them the opportunity to test themselves against top judokas from all over the world," said Arijana Jaha, Secretary General of the Judo Federation of BiH.

A total of 19 competitors will represent Bosnia and Herzegovina in this competition, 15 in the men's and four in the women's category.

One of the seven judokas who will compete at the European Open is Anđela Samardžić, who won gold at this competition two years ago, and silver at the European Cup for seniors in Skopje at the end of September.

"Competing in front of a home crowd is always a special challenge. I will strive to do my best to repeat the result from two years ago when I won gold, and I believe that my colleagues will also put in maximum effort to achieve the best possible results," said Anđela Samardžić, whose older sister and BiH Olympian Aleksandra Samardžić is also registered to compete at the European Open.

The Judo Federation of BiH emphasized that 2026 will be a particularly challenging year for them, and that they expect to organize several very important international competitions next year.

The Sarajevo European Open 2025 begins on Saturday, with the first bouts scheduled from 10 AM, while the final block is scheduled from 2 PM.
