22nd anniversary of the burning of 70 Bosniaks in a house in Višegrad

With the midday prayer at the Careva Mosque in Višegrad, a peaceful walk to the house of Sumbula Zeba known as the "living pyre", and a tevhid for the victims who perished in this town, the 22nd anniversary of one of the most horrific crimes in the Podrinje region will be marked today, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

On 14 June 1992, in the house of Sumbula Zeba in Višegrad, in Pionirska Street, more than 70 Bosniaks, mostly women and children, were burned alive. For these crimes, Milan Lukić was sentenced to life imprisonment and Sredoje Lukić to 27 years by a final verdict of the Hague Tribunal. The bones of the burned Bosniaks have not been found to this day.

Bakira Hasečić, president of the Association "Woman-Victim of War", confirmed to the Patria news agency that today, during the commemoration of the crime in Pionirska Street, consent will be collected from family members of the murdered Bosniaks, and that afterwards a procedure will be initiated before the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to order high officials from the Republika Srpska to reveal where the bones of the killed civilians are located, because they know.

- Many of today's high-ranking officials in the RS were members of certain crisis staffs in these areas at the time of the killing of Bosniaks in Višegrad, and they know where the bodies of the murdered Bosniaks are buried - said Hasečić.

The authorities of the Republika Srpska last year ordered the demolition of the house of Sumbula Zeba, which had long become a recognizable symbol of the suffering of Bosniaks in Višegrad, but members of the association "Women-Victims of War" prevented this, writes Patria.
