20 years since Dayton: Expected 'no' from RS to US proposal for changes to the BiH Constitution

America would change the Constitution in BiH and they have already figured out how. They propose a resolution that would be based on the Dayton Agreement, reports the Patria news agency.

Whether and why, ahead of the twentieth anniversary of Dayton, Americans are advocating for changes to the Constitution in BiH, US Ambassador Maureen Cormack did not answer. Although she met with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of BiH, completely different topics were current.

And Mladen Bosić is not surprised by the American declaration, although he has not even heard of it. He says it could be expected that the story about constitutional changes would be activated these days.

-I think that many will try to use this anniversary of Dayton to reopen the story about the Dayton arrangement, which would refocus on things we are evidently unable to agree on, said Bosić.

The American resolution also envisages sending an envoy who would assess the implementation of the Dayton Agreement and inform the US authorities about it.

Milorad Dodik, President of Republika Srpska, says he has nothing against resolutions, if it lists what has been done, what has not, and where the Constitution has been violated. As for the envoy, he says, anyone can come.

Analysts claim that this story should not be given too much attention. It is obviously, they say, more about events in America than in BiH. The election campaign is in full swing there, recalls political analyst Miloš Šolaja.

-I think it is more a product of Balkan lobbying, which in the case of Balkan countries reaches the Congress the most. It is all quite relative, and on the other hand, I think it is a bit of a game for the presidential elections, said Šolaja, reports ATV.
