12 FIRE VICTIMS: Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton completes investigation, autopsy shows death by suffocation

(Patria) - The Operational Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton Police Administration received information from the University Clinical Centre Tuzla, Clinic for Resuscitation and Anesthesiology, that another person has died.

"At 12:39 PM, the duty doctor confirmed the death of another person who was injured in the fire on November 4, 2025, as a resident of the Home for the Elderly in Tuzla," confirmed Adnana Sprečić, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton Police Administration.

This brings the death toll to twelve. 

More than 30 people are hospitalized, and five were on ventilators.

The deceased is a resident S.T., born in 1941.

The Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton issued a public statement after the investigation at the Home for the Elderly was concluded.

"In the coming period, the Sector of Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton, an electrical expert, and an expert in fire protection and occupational safety will submit reports to the Prosecutor's Office of Tuzla Canton.

We will inform the public about the causes of the fire once the reports and findings and opinions of experts and investigators from the Sector of Criminal Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tuzla Canton have been analyzed.

Six men and six women died, all residents of the Home for the Elderly Tuzla.

According to the preliminary results of the autopsies performed so far, which were verbally communicated to the Prosecutor's Office by the experts, all 11 people died as a result of suffocation, i.e., carbon monoxide poisoning, with the body of one victim also being burned. The autopsy of the woman who died today will be performed in the near future.

In accordance with the Guidelines for the Publication of Judicial and Prosecutorial Acts and Information of the HJPC BiH and instructions for anonymization, professional and ethical standards for reporting from the judiciary, especially for reporting on victims, taking into account the trauma and pain of family members, we are able to publish only the initials and birth years of the deceased.

The initials of the deceased women are: R.K (born 1947), R.Dž (born 1940), M.L (born 1936), S.T (born 1950), H.J (born 1935), and S.T (born 1941). The initials of the deceased men are: Z.B (born 1958), A.I (born 1944), J.L (born 1944), Z.M (born 1952), M.M (born 1929), and A.P (born 1948).
