11,000 Ilidža elementary school students visited the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center

(Patria) - Eighth-grade female and male students from elementary schools in the municipality of Ilidža visited the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center on April 30th this year.

More than 690 students from Ilidža, accompanied by their teachers, paid their respects to the victims of the genocide.

"The culture of remembering the genocide in Srebrenica is something we must nurture, something we must talk about and pass on to our children and new generations," said the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Nermin Muzur.

Since 2008, elementary school students from Ilidža, organized by the Municipality of Ilidža, have regularly visited the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, and this last visit to Potočari and Srebrenica was the 15th to be realized.

The exception was in 2020 and 2021, when visits to the Memorial Center were not possible due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Year after year, students from Ilidža visit Srebrenica, pay their respects to the fellow citizens killed in the genocide, learn the truth, and protect it from oblivion, which, as the past has confirmed, is a dangerous enemy," emphasized Mayor Muzur.

Through this humane and educational project, organized and financed by the Municipality of Ilidža, it is estimated that nearly 11,000 elementary school students from Ilidža have visited the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center.

This year, as in previous years, the visit to Srebrenica was realized with the assistance of the Federal Police Administration, the Sarajevo Canton Health Center - Ilidža Unit, and GSS Ilidža."
