10 new trolleybuses for Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - As part of the contract for the procurement of 25 new trolleybuses with the company BKM Holding, the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton Adnan Šteta, in the presence of the Prime Minister of KS Edin Forto and representatives of the EBRD and EIB Manuela Naessl and Sandrine Friscia, today signed an Agreement for the procurement of an additional 10 trolleybuses with the same Belarusian company.  

The trolleybuses are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, which the representatives of the Sarajevo Canton Government saw for themselves during an official visit to Minsk, after the first Sarajevo trolleybus was produced.

- Our recent visit to Minsk allowed us to see the quality and safety of the new trolleybuses. After analyzing the condition of the current vehicles, the negotiations we had during that visit, and the support of the EBRD and EIB, it was decided that we will procure an additional 10 trolleybuses, i.e., a total of 35, which, by operating without a contact network, will be able to replace bus lines, thus significantly changing the image of public transport in the canton, and improving the quality of life for all of us - said Minister Šteta after signing the agreement.

The first trolleybus will be delivered to Sarajevo in January 2022, while the delivery of all 25 is expected by spring. The delivery of the new 10 trolleybuses to Sarajevo streets is expected in September next year.

- A revolution in public transport is underway. We are completely renewing the fleet. Trolleybuses are the first in line. The quality of life in Sarajevo will improve in the coming years due to the improvement of public transport. This is the first of many steps - emphasized Prime Minister Forto.
