February 1, 1462, established as the exact date of Sarajevo's founding

SARAJevo, (Patria) - At the initiative of the Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Isa-beg Ishaković, the City Council of Sarajevo today adopted a draft decision establishing February 1, 1462, as the exact date of Sarajevo's founding. The draft decision was made as a result of research based on scientifically founded and historical facts, which was jointly carried out by Professor Emeritus Enes Pelidija and employees of the Historical Archive of the City of Sarajevo, the Institute for History and the Oriental Institute at the University of Sarajevo, the Gazi Husrev-beg Library, and all participants of the International Scientific Conference "Isa-beg Ishaković" held in February of this year.

"We are very pleased that the City Council members, along with the Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka, and the employees of the City Administration, recognized the quality and importance of the aforementioned project and, based on it, submitted and adopted the initiative to establish the date of Sarajevo's origin," stated the Isa-beg Ishaković Association, thanking everyone who contributed to the promotion of this initiative.

"We hope that we will continue to work together on similar projects of revitalization and promotion of the thousand-year tradition and cultural heritage of our homeland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the future," added the Association. The research encompassed the political, economic, social, and religious circumstances of Sarajevo's origin, and based on the facts, it has been confirmed that the city of Sarajevo has a continuity of a full 557 years, both in name and in the development of its urban environment, respecting and nurturing all the diversities of cultures, nations, and religions.

The Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Isa-beg Ishaković was founded in 2016 with the primary mission of revitalizing the image and work of the founder of the city of Sarajevo, Isa-beg Ishaković. Along with developing a sense of love for Bosnia and Herzegovina and protecting its traditional spiritual and cultural being, the main goals of the Association are to strengthen achievements and provide support in the protection of Bosnia and Herzegovina's cultural heritage, and to promote the natural, cultural, and historical heritage of Isa-beg Ishaković and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
