Official Warning for Allergic Individuals: First Wave of Pollen is Yet to Come!

(Patria) - The Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton and the Centre for Ecology and Natural Resources – Academician Sulejman Redžić are issuing a warning to citizens, especially those prone to allergies, due to the expected significant increase in pollen concentration in the air during June.

Although pollen concentration was lower in May, current weather conditions, with high temperatures, sunny days, and gentle winds, are creating ideal conditions for pollen spread, which will unfortunately cause an increase in air concentrations. We warn that the danger for people suffering from pollen allergies is not over yet – on the contrary, it is yet to come!

Unlike the previous dominance of tree pollen such as birch and ash, the appearance of the first weed pollen has been registered, particularly from the nettle (Urticaceae) and plantain (Plantaginaceae) families. This marks the beginning of the summer weed pollen season, and in the coming period, linden pollen is also expected, its arrival having been delayed due to earlier unfavorable weather conditions.

Given that people are allergic to different types of pollen, experts advise individuals allergic to tree pollen to avoid parks with woody plants and, if possible, to spend leisure time in mountains, above the upper forest line.

Individuals allergic to grass and weed pollen are advised to avoid meadow ecosystems and uncultivated areas, and if possible, to spend more time within forest ecosystems.

All individuals with seasonal rhinitis (hay fever) are advised to contact their primary care physician if their clinical condition changes.
