Official: Emir Spahić is no longer a member of Bayer Leverkusen

Bosnia and Herzegovina national team player Emir Spahić is no longer a member of Bayer Leverkusen. Namely, the German Bundesliga club announced that the contract with Spahić, which was valid until 2016, has been terminated, German media reported, Patria reports.

Emir Spahić played 70 matches for the "Apothecaries". This decision was made after Spahić got into a fight with security guards, during which he claimed he was defending his brother and family. 

- After such an incident, we had no other choice - said CEO Michael Bayer Schade in a statement from Bayer.

Although Bayer Leverkusen fans expressed their support for Emir Spahić with a banner "Emir is one of us" at yesterday's match against Mainz, the team captain Simon Rolfes did not show such understanding.

After the 2-1 victory over Mainz, Rolfes commented on the Spahić scandal, saying that the security guard whom our national team player attacked is also part of the Bayer family.

- The security guard is also one of us, this victory is for him too - said Rolfes.
