Zubak: The Constitution is not an obstacle to forming the FBiH Government, political will is key

Krešimir Zubak was the first member of the BiH Presidency from the Croat people. He attended the negotiations in Dayton in 1995 and refused to sign the Agreement.

He believed that a better and fairer solution could and should have been reached, especially for Croats in BiH.

He did not sign because he "respected the then Constitution of the Federation adopted in 1994 as part of the Washington Agreement on the establishment of the Federation".

This agreement stipulated that BiH would be organized as a federation of cantons, and it was emphasized that the Federation would include areas where Croats and Bosniaks are the majority.

Zubak briefly commented on the current political crisis in the Federation for the Patria News Agency.

The fact that the Government of the Federation of BiH has not been formed even five months after the General Elections in BiH is, in his opinion, solely a matter of political will.

When asked by Patria journalists whether the Constitution of the Federation of BiH, which everyone is now suddenly quoting and interpreting, is an obstacle to forming the government in the Federation, Zubak says that the Constitution is not a hindrance.

- According to that same Constitution, we formed the government before. There were problems, but we reached solutions - says Zubak.

After parting ways with the leadership of HDZ BiH, whose president was Ante Jelavić, Zubak, with a group of like-minded individuals, founded the New Croat Initiative. He had the support of the international community as well. However, NHI did not achieve significant results in the elections.

Zubak withdrew from politics a few years ago and is now practicing law. Very successfully. Politics, he says, hardly interests him anymore.

He has distanced himself from it to such an extent that he only superficially follows political developments. However, as a former politician, he knows that nothing can be an obstacle in the country if there is political will.
