(Patria) - The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, the Association of Families of Martyrs, Captured and Missing Persons of Kotor Varoš, and the Association of Camp Inmates in BiH issued a statement today following yesterday's information that war criminal Stojan Župljanin, sentenced by the ICTY in The Hague, has requested guarantees from the Council of Ministers of BiH for early release.
"We believe that the Council of Ministers of BiH has no legitimacy to provide guarantees as long as the Council of Ministers of BiH, led by the Minister of Justice, blocks the entry of final ICTY judgments into the legal system of BiH, about which there are critical reports from the ICTY and the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague, addressed to the UN Security Council.
Guarantees must not and cannot be given without the opinion of the victims of Župljanin's crimes and after the ICTY judgments are entered into the criminal records of our state.
It is precisely the blocks and obstructions to the entry of ICTY judgments that allow criminals to engage politically and socially in BiH, to be 'impeccable' citizens, and that the failure to enter judgments enables the denial of crimes and ICTY verdicts.
Granting guarantees to Župljanin would be confirmation that, following the political support for Dario Kordić by the President of the Federation of BiH, Lidija Bradara, and the Minister in the Government of the Federation of BiH, Sanja Vlaisavljević, criminals and criminal policies convicted by the ICTY are systematically supported," these associations stated in a joint letter addressed to the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto.
