Genocide Victims Buried in Potočari

POTOČARI, (Patria) – 33 Srebrenica victims, who died during July 1995 in the attack by Serb forces on the protected zone of Srebrenica, were buried today in the cemetery of the Potočari Memorial Center.

The youngest victim buried this year is Osman Cvrk, who was killed at the age of 16. The oldest victim is Šaha Cvrk, who was 81 years old.

The burial of the victims was preceded by a commemoration attended by delegations from home and abroad.

To date, 6,610 Bosniak victims of Srebrenica have been buried in the cemetery of the Potočari Memorial Center. The remains of more than a thousand missing Srebrenica residents are still being searched for, while their families do not wish to bury about 800 of them because only one or a few bones of the victim were found and identified. In just a few days in July 1995, Serb forces killed more than 8,000 Bosniak men, women, and children.

During today's commemoration, officials paid special attention to the denial of the genocide in Srebrenica, emphasizing the necessity of adopting a law prohibiting the denial of genocide.

Among others, members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, High Representative Valentin Inzko, President of the Hague Mechanism Karmel Agius, US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson, Turkish Ambassador Haldun Koç, and President of the Sobranje of North Macedonia Talat Xhaferi attended the commemoration in Srebrenica.

No officials from the Bosnian Serb entity of Republika Srpska attended the commemoration.
