Dragons 'closed the door' to the EURO, and now they won't get money from UEFA

(Patria) - Aleksander Čeferin announced that UEFA is releasing 236 million euros in financial aid to its member associations to combat the crisis caused by the coronavirus.

As part of the HatTrick fund, member associations will receive 4.3 million euros each for this and the next season as an investment to repair the damage caused. Similar to FIFA's fund, this is money that member associations would receive anyway, but UEFA is exceptionally releasing it in one installment.

UEFA's HatTrick project was launched after Euro 2004 in Portugal with the aim of returning part of the revenue from the European Championship to UEFA member associations for development, and each member association should receive 4.3 million euros. Each, it seems, except Ireland.

Namely, Ireland would greatly benefit from the mentioned amount, as it has problems with financing the Association (employees' salaries have been reduced), and it primarily earns money by organizing national team matches, which is currently impossible.

However, UEFA confirmed that the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) had already requested that funds from the HatTrick program for 2019 and 2020 be paid out to them, and now they are not entitled to financial assistance.

At that time, John Delaney was at the head of the FAI, who was also a member of UEFA's Executive Committee, which managed the fund.

Let's add to this that the Republic of Ireland eliminated the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the play-off for EURO 2016 in 2015, writes sportske.ba.
