Zenica-Doboj Canton and Srebrenica Memorial Center strengthen institutional cooperation

(Patria) - A meeting was held at the premises of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton between Minister Mirza Mušija and representatives of the Srebrenica Memorial Center – Potočari, Center Director Emir Suljagić and Almir Salihović.

The occasion for the meeting was an agreement on future cooperation between the relevant ministry and the Srebrenica Memorial Center – Potočari.

The minister informed the Center Director about the activities undertaken so far regarding the implementation of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution, which declares July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995.

The Center Director expressed gratitude for the reception and support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, and emphasized the importance of this ministry in carrying out activities that contribute to shedding light on the truth about the period of aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, condemning the denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals, as well as activities that contribute to the culture of remembrance of the said period.

With the aim of improving cooperation, preventing denial and misinterpretation, preserving established facts, and building collective memory, it was agreed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation. This document will define the next activities that will ensure learning and teaching about the genocide in Srebrenica: from the siege to the genocide (1992–1995) and its lasting consequences, as well as the commemoration of the anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide through the educational process in the Canton.
