Zenica wants to host the final of the European Junior Volleyball Championship

ZENICA, (Patria) - With the aim of supporting the representative selections of Bosnia and Herzegovina, further promotion of Zenica as a regional center with the highest quality sports infrastructure, the Mayor of Zenica Fuad Kasumović today spoke with the President of the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Fatić.

The European Volleyball Federation (CEV) awarded Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia the joint organization of the European Junior Volleyball Championship (U19) in the summer of 2020. After the Croatian Volleyball Federation nominated Osijek as the host city, Mayor Kasumović and the President of the Volleyball Federation of BiH Fatić today expressed a joint commitment to hold this major competition in the City Arena "Husejin Smajlović".

"The European Championship for juniors under 19 years of age will be held between August 15 and September 15, 2020. Among the 12 best selections will be the national team of BiH, and the desire of volleyball workers from our country is that part of the competition be held in Zenica, which realistically has the best conditions in BiH, both in sports and in terms of accommodation capacities, road infrastructure and everything else. Honestly, I was hoping for such a positive reaction from Mr. Kasumović and support for this demanding project from which the local community can greatly benefit," said Alija Fatić, President of the Volleyball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Mayor Kasumović, on behalf of the City Administration and the citizens of Zenica, expressed satisfaction with the opportunity for our city to host a major event, during which several hundred athletes will stay in Zenica. As planned, the final matches of the European Junior Championship for female volleyball players will be played precisely in the City Arena "Husejin Smajlović".

"I am happy every time we have the opportunity to send a nice picture of Zenica to the rest of our homeland, the region and beyond. We have all the conditions for the development of sports tourism in our city, as evidenced by the fact that after the football, basketball, and occasionally handball national teams, the volleyball national teams of BiH are now coming to our city. I am convinced that the people of Zenica, as always, will be good hosts to our friends from all over Europe," said Fuad Kasumović, Mayor of Zenica.

Soon, the City of Zenica and the Volleyball Federation of BiH will sign a memorandum to formalize cooperation in the organization of the European Junior Volleyball Championship in 2020.
