(Patria) - At least 21 people were injured in a 5.4 magnitude earthquake in eastern China, Chinese authorities said today.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake occurred at 2:33 a.m. local time, at a depth of ten meters and 26 kilometers south of the city of Dezhou in Shandong province.
Citing official sources, state-run CCTV reported that at least 21 people were injured and 156 buildings collapsed.
Following this, 52 aftershocks were recorded.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in China, but they rarely hit the eastern part of the country where most of the population lives and where large cities are located.
