Zeljković: Only together can we create the prerequisites for the municipality of Novo Sarajevo to move forward

(Patria) - As a graduate economist, successful in all segments of society, an athlete, an ambitious young man eager to work and prove himself in his homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nedim Zeljković wants to contribute to the development of BiH society.

He is on the list of the People's European Movement and this is his first time in an electoral process, and he says about the motives for getting politically involved:

“Looking at the political scene and events globally, from the local level to the state level, a lack of ideas and enthusiasm can be observed. Some current politicians show that they are unable to bring about positive changes. We are stagnating in all segments, and even regressing in some places, and the general impression is one of apathy and dissatisfaction. My obligation, as a young man, is to try to contribute positively with my knowledge and skills. I want to use my example to encourage and invite young, educated, and honest people to get involved and to enter the future with new progressive ideas and implement projects from which citizens will benefit.

Why did you join NES?

Following political events and analyzing the actors on the political scene, my choice was NES. The political program, principled approach, country first, NO to offers from poorly characterized politicians, these are all elements that aligned with my views. Of course, personally, observing the actions of president Nermin Ogrešević and his closest associates Jasmin Emrić, Enver Išerić, Rifat Hozanović, and others, who have shown how one can fight for the country and citizens with character and principles, were another important reason for my commitment. I firmly believe that my choice was correct, and at the same time, I express my satisfaction that they have given me the opportunity to establish myself through this politically organized group and contribute to my country.

If you are elected to the Municipal Council of Novo Sarajevo, how do you see your role?

If the citizens of Novo Sarajevo support the work program and policies advocated by NES, our primary goal is to ensure the council's support for the future mayor. Only together can we create the prerequisites for the municipality of Novo Sarajevo to move forward and prosper. In this context, I also see my role and intention to make a personal contribution to positive changes. Certainly, in the segments defined in our program, we want to significantly improve security, social protection, culture and sports, the work program of small businesses, care for young people, care for the veteran population, care for the elderly population, and certainly improve infrastructure and environmental development. Improving the security of all citizens of Novo Sarajevo is the basis for all other actions.

Given that you are an economist by profession and are involved in an EU project in the field of Bosnia and Herzegovina's energy transition, do you see opportunities for your work in the local community?

Precisely, the intention of all projects is to involve the local community in their implementation. The opportunities are great, and it is up to us whether we will seize them. I will give a few examples. Insulating buildings, rational use of both electricity and thermal energy, installing new charging stations for electric vehicles in most parking lots and public garages, arranging green areas and building new parks, installing solar panels on buildings where possible are just some of the examples where the image of Novo Sarajevo can be changed quickly and effectively. The Goran Čengić sports hall, and the KJKP Toplana heating plants in the municipality of Novo Sarajevo are examples of facilities where solar panels can be installed in the shortest possible time. Of course, it is necessary to work on educating citizens and informing them about the possibilities and benefits of such projects.

You are a former national team member, an athlete. You know what it takes for a serious result. What are your goals for improving sports in the municipality of Novo Sarajevo?

The goal is to improve conditions for all generations and build strong foundations for the future. In sports, results do not come overnight, so we must work today for the results to come in a few years. For this reason, my goal is to build new sports facilities in parks for children and to build new sports playgrounds so that they develop a habit of playing sports from an early age, and the best and most talented among us need not only serious infrastructure but also significantly greater financial assistance from both the local community and higher levels of government. I know what I went through and I will certainly do everything in my power to improve the situation regarding sports.
