SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Football Club Željezničar offered condolences to Fiorentina after its captain, Davide Astori, passed away in his sleep last night.
The public in Italy is in shock, but the news has also stunned the entire football world. Thus, after BiH national team player Edin Džeko, Željezničar also expressed its support for the Italian giant.
- Today is a sad day for football. Fiorentina captain Davide Astori, unfortunately, passed away during the night. Our thoughts and prayers are with Astori's family and ACF Fiorentina - stated the club from Grbavica.
BiH national team player Miralem Pjanić also said goodbye to Astori, posting a joint picture with Astori from their time playing together at Roma on his Instagram profile.
Davide Astori was born in 1987, was the captain of Fiorentina, and an Italian national team player for whom he played 14 matches.
The chief prosecutor from Udine, Antonio De Nicolo, confirmed that the death was caused by natural causes due to cardiac arrest.
- It is strange that such a thing happens to a professional athlete, who regularly undergoes medical examinations, and without any warning signs - said prosecutor De Nicolo.
Due to Astori's death, all Italian league matches scheduled for today have been cancelled.
