Zelensky apologized to the US President in a letter for the White House quarrel

(Patria) - US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff revealed that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky sent a letter of apology to Donald Trump after a public quarrel during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House.

American and Ukrainian officials are expected to meet this week in Saudi Arabia to continue peace talks to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. Witkoff said he believes the letter of apology to Trump is "progress".

In his joint address to Congress, Trump said he received a letter from Zelensky in an effort to mend relations between the two countries. Trump expressed gratitude for the letter, which arrived just days after the US suspended military aid to Ukraine.

Let us recall that during a meeting in the Oval Office at the end of February, there was a heated discussion between Trump and Zelensky. The meeting, which was supposed to result in the signing of an agreement on rare minerals, turned into a verbal conflict after Zelensky criticized Trump's approach towards Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump warned Zelensky that he was "gambling with World War III" and emphasized the need for greater Ukrainian gratitude for American aid.

US Vice President J.D. Vance also criticized Zelensky for alleged ingratitude and disrespect during the meeting. Several media outlets later listed that Zelensky thanked the US and American leaders dozens of times for their aid to Ukraine.

After the meeting, Zelensky expressed regret over the incident but did not directly apologize. He emphasized Ukraine's readiness to continue negotiations and achieve lasting peace.

The quarrel in the Oval Office further complicated relations between the US and Ukraine, especially in the context of the suspension of US military aid to Ukraine, which is crucial for countering the Russian invasion.
