Zdenko Lučić: If there were at least a desire for justice in BiH, Kovačević's candidacy would be rejected

(Patria) - Candidate for the Presidency of BiH Zdenko Lučić assessed in an interview with Večernji list that, as he says, in a “state governed by the rule of law” the candidacy of Slaven Kovačević would be rejected.

"Croats in BiH have been hostages of one man and a group of people subservient to him for too long. Every attempt at democratization and pluralism has been declared 'betrayal', 'danger' and the like. What have we gained in these twenty years of uniformity, dictatorship and fear? Nothing good! General corruption, non-functioning of the system, absence of all value criteria, despondency, emigration and decay. I have no doubt that Croats in BiH will be much stronger and safer without Čović and similar 'messiahs'. As for Kovačević, he swore in court (and a European court at that) that he is not a Croat and that his civil rights were threatened, and now he supposedly ran as a Croat for the Croatian member of the BiH Presidency.

If there were any rule of law in BiH, or at least a desire for justice, his candidacy would be rejected," Lučić stated.

Speaking about the current political situation and the start of the informal campaign for the 2026 elections, Lučić said that political life in BiH still largely revolves around the past, while the future, in his opinion, is neglected.

He spoke critically about the political elites, whom he claims have been responsible for the dysfunction of institutions, corruption and emigration for years. He particularly emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen institutions and change political practice in order for the state to become more stable.

Lučić added that Bosnia and Herzegovina has significant human and natural potential, but that, as he claims, it has not been used in the interest of citizens but of individuals and political structures.

Finally, he pointed out that he remains politically active in BiH and does not plan to return to political life in Croatia, stating that he will continue to act in the direction of, as he says, “positive changes”.
