Second migrant camp in Greece quarantined due to infection

(Patria) – Greece has quarantined a second migrant camp after a 53-year-old man from Afghanistan tested positive for the coronavirus.

He lives in the Malakasa camp with his family and hundreds of other migrants. After the infection was confirmed, he was transferred to a hospital in Athens, and all his contacts will be tested.

Something earlier on Thursday, Greek authorities quarantined the Ritsona camp in central Greece after 20 migrants tested positive for the coronavirus. These are the first cases of infection among the migrant population in Greece since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Malakasa camp, located 40 km from Athens, will be placed under a two-week quarantine with increased police surveillance. Another closed-type center has been opened for migrants who arrived after March 1.
