One person deprived of liberty for migrant smuggling

(Patria) - Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency today (16.04.2026) in the area of Banja Luka, as part of the ongoing operational action "Trio", deprived one person of liberty.

One location in Banja Luka was searched, used by the person deprived of liberty due to reasonable suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of "Organizing a group or association for the commission of the criminal offense of migrant smuggling" as prescribed by the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The person deprived of liberty was taken to SIPA premises for criminal processing and questioning as a suspect, after which they will be handed over to the further jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the search, items that may serve as evidence of the commission of the aforementioned criminal offenses were discovered and temporarily seized.

The aforementioned activities were carried out by order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The operational action "Trio" was carried out in cooperation with police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton.

During the implementation of operational activities, cooperation was established with police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, OTF Zebra.

Activities in the aforementioned case were supported by the EU4FAST project.

The State Investigation and Protection Agency, together with partner agencies, continues decisive activities aimed at detecting, dismantling, and prosecuting organized criminal groups.
