Why are more and more children in Bosnia and Herzegovina suffering from diabetes?

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, more and more children are suffering from incurable diseases, with diabetes and some forms of cancer leading the way, experts warn, reports the BH news agency Patria.

Doctors state that the main cause of the increased incidence of chronic diseases in children is food, which contains a high concentration of hormones that cause hormonal disorders in children.

The head of the Clinic for Children's Diseases at SKB Mostar, Dr. Vesna Brkić, told Večernji list that in the first four months of 2015, doctors in Mostar diagnosed diabetes in as many as 12 children, which is alarming and can be called an epidemic of diabetes among children.

- So far, in five cases, we have discovered a clear link between hormonal disorders in children and the consumption of chicken, chicken hot dogs, and salami. These are food products that have a high concentration of hormones, which ultimately leads to major hormonal disorders – stated the Clinic for Children's Diseases at SKB Mostar, adding that the same food also causes other health problems in children, as well as excessive obesity.

In order to offer children the best possible healthcare, the construction of a modern clinic for children's diseases, worth more than 22 million KM and covering an area of 5,722 m2, will soon begin in Mostar. It will be built with loan money from Saudi Arabia.
