Roundabout near Gras company completed

(Patria) - Construction works on the roundabout near the Gras company were completed yesterday, after ten months of construction, announced the Mayor of Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality, Semir Efendić.

Most of the time, as he stated, was spent on replacing water supply installations; out of 10 months of construction, 6 months were dedicated to replacing pipelines, specifically DN 200, DN 300, and DN 400 (14. 09. 2023. - 04. 10. 2023.) and the DN 700 pipeline (19. 10. 2023. - 29. 03. 2024.).

The replacement of the DN 700 pressure pipeline, which transports water to the Kobilja glava reservoir, can be considered a separate project due to the scope and complexity of the work. This high-pressure pipeline was replaced over a length of 250 meters due to numerous damages, which included tunneling under the industrial railway track.



The replacement of water supply installations was carried out by the ViK company, while the contractor for the roundabout construction handled excavation and material procurement, except for the DN 700 pipes, which were purchased with EBRD loan funds.

"In these tasks, without which the construction of the roundabout could not have been completed, the pace of work was most dependent on the ViK company, i.e., the material procurement they handled. Their teams on the ground were very efficient, but the delivery of connecting and other materials was delayed for several months.

The total value of the construction works was 1,679,000 KM (Base contract 1,455,000 KM, additional works 224,000 KM). The additional works mainly related to the rehabilitation of a section of Srđana Aleksića Street towards the Green Bridge, which had to be completely reconstructed due to the laying of the DN 700 pipeline, as well as the construction of lighting in Srđana Aleksića Street," Efendić stated.

The Municipality of Novi Grad and the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton signed an agreement for co-financing the roundabout construction works worth 1,455,000 KM (750,000 KM from the Ministry of Transport KS, 705,000 KM from the Municipality of Novi Grad).



The remaining funds for additional works amounting to 224,000 KM and for the replacement of installations amounting to approximately 180,000 KM were secured by the Municipality of Novi Grad.

The roundabout near the Gras company is part of a larger project for the development of primary traffic routes through the Municipality of Novi Grad, which involves establishing a second primary traffic corridor. This includes the expansion of Džemala Bijedića Street, the construction of roundabouts, and the connection of Džemala Bijedića Street to the city highway via the Ninth Transversal and Lot 2C of the Sarajevo Bypass.
