House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopts 'Law on Penalising Reckless Driving'

(Patria) - The House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina today adopted the Proposal for a Law on Amendments to the Law on the Basics of Road Traffic Safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For this legislative proposal, whose sponsors are representatives Saša Magazinović and Jasmin Imamović, 28 representatives voted in favour, while six were against.

A conclusion was also adopted instructing the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to consider this law under an urgent procedure.

"Finally. The Law on Penalising Reckless Driving has been adopted. Severe fines, long-term revocation of driving licences, temporary seizure of vehicles, permanent seizure of vehicles…

These are all measures that will penalise reckless driving and reckless drivers after this law is confirmed by the House of Peoples.

There will no longer be refusals to undergo drug testing. The police will receive powerful tools to remove potential killers behind the wheel from the road.

When people elect you to Parliament, it is as if you sign a social contract of trust with each of them to work in the best interest of society and the state. This law is in the best interest of society as a whole," Magazinović stated.

Let us recall, as previously reported, the fine for refusing a test increases from the current 400 to 1,000 KM.

Also, police officers will have the right to apprehend and detain a driver under the influence of drugs until the effects of the narcotics cease, for a maximum of 12 hours. This measure previously applied exclusively to drivers under the influence of alcohol.

The legal amendments stipulate a fine between 200 and 400 KM for using a mobile phone while driving.

And if a driver with a phone in hand causes an accident, the fine can reach up to 2,000 KM, along with the possibility of a driving ban of up to six months.
